Hello! I’m back with quite a few updates since the last post I’ve made. The biggest news is that I’ve acquired 2 more sheep’s fleeces, as well as over 10 more angora rabbit fleeces from all different breeds. For today’s post though I’ll primarily be focusing on the sheep’s fleeces. The first fleece I purchased ended up having a few unforeseen problems with it, that ultimately meant I’d get the most use out of it in our garden. However, the 2 newer fleeces I purchased are a spinners dream! The first spectacular fleece is from a merino ewe named Bonnie and the second just as wonderful fleece is from a merino ewe named Naomi. They both are a part of a small spinners flock in northern California. They also happen to be coated sheep. That means they get to wear a jacket while their fleece is growing. This protects the fleece from vegetable matter and dirt for a smoother cleaning process when the fleece is purchased by a spinner. Both Bonnie’s fleece and Naomi’s fleece washed up beautifully. Almost no vegetable matter, and all the dirt came out in the cold soaks mostly. Once some of each fleece was washed and dried, I prepared the fiber for spinning. This was a lot smoother process than the very first fleece. Spinning the fiber was a dream as well. It takes a little getting used to the rhythm, but once I got the hang of it on the wheel it was a lot of fun. I think my favorite skein I’ve made so far is the blend of black and white fleece from Naomi. The stark contrast is very eye catching in my opinion. Well, that’s all I have for this post. Bye for now :).
